It often seems as the cultural revolution is something that happens to somebody else, and usually that somebody else is far off.
We hear about an ageing feminist that gets banned from a university for not being up to speed with the latest definition of 'woman'. Or that policemen are being volunteered to paint their nails and wear rainbow badges. Or that some wacko vlogger gets fined for teaching his girlfriend's pug to do a Nazi salute. And we think 'There but for the grace of God, don't go I'. They're all freaks. Who cares. Let the leftie virtue-signallers have their fun!
But you were wrong. That rumbling in the distance that you thought was too pathetic and trivial to bother about was the main battles fought for control of our country. Now those battles are over and ... we lost. Now our cultural Marxists elites are coming to finish us off.
Just consider the case of the two volunteer RNLI seamen who were fired for having mugs with naked women on them.
Just a couple of years ago it wouldn't have happened for two solid reasons. First, the mugs were clearly a harmless joke. And second the men were volunteers who had risked their lives over many years to help others. To put it mildly these heroes deserved to be cut some slack. Like enough slack to extend from here to the middle of the stormy North Sea that was their beat.
But not to the dead-eyed progressive totalitarians who run everything these days.
The RNLI's official statement is horrific for its sanctimonious mendacity:
'The lifeboat station should be an environment where people can expect to be treated with dignity and respect.
'We cannot allow bullying, harassment or discrimination in what should be a safe and inclusive environment and there will be serious consequences for anybody who demonstrates this behaviour within the RNLI.
'Our dedicated volunteers represent the values and principles of our organisation and we will not allow any behaviour that brings the work of the RNLI and our people into disrepute.'
There was, of course, no bullying, harassment or discrimination and the comic mugs did not endanger anybody.
One particularly disturbing aspect of the case was how the RNLI management demanded access to their private Whatsapp messages. I imagine they found the male banter that they needed to justify the sackings.
This is totalitarian. The assumption is that literally everything you say and write in private as well as in public must conform to the state's view of what is allowable. The fact that they can do that (and they do it every day of the week) means that progressives have won the culture war.
In short if two selfless heroes like these men and their four colleagues who resigned in protest can be targetted and destroyed, nobody is safe.
Maybe they won't come for you just yet if you keep quiet and never say or write anything interesting, off colour, or funny.
But be aware.
They are closing in for the kill.
