A couple of days ago around 10 masked terrorists, dressed in black, went into the main train station in Kunming in China and began slashing people with knives and meat cleavers. At least 29 were killed and 140 injured.

The MO is all too familiar. The face to face savagery together with the obvious desire to kill as many as possible.

I googled the words  “China” and “terror’. Here’s the headlines from the first two pages of my search.

A question:

Why don’t the words Islamic or Muslim appear anywhere in these headlines?

Most of the articles eventually get round to the dreaded M-word in the fifth or sixth paragraph. But only after they’ve emphasised that the cause of this latest barbaric atrocity is “ethnic tensions,” Chinese oppression or “separatism”. The perpetrators’ religion is usually only mentioned as background towards the end of the story.

Excluding mention of Islam in connection to these outrages is equivalent to reporting Kristallnacht without reference to Nazism. Perhaps a modern editor would come up with a headline like this:

Ethnic tensions flared up in Germany yesterday causing at least 90 deaths

Does anybody doubt that if terrorists were doing this in the name of Christianity or Hinduism that their religion would be in the headlines? The motive behind this obscene delicacy in reporting the truth about Islam is not only fear. There is also the calculation that given the size of the Muslim population in the world and here in our own countries that the only way to tame Islam is to keep Muslims onside by not offending them.

But this thinking is wrong-headed. There has never been a group of people more in need of offensive rebuke than Muslims. The only hope to reform Islam is to tell the truth about it. This is all we can do to assist reform minded Muslims in their fight against their barbarous co-religionists.

Maybe some of you think this selective blindness of the media is old news. And you’d be right, it is.

But until the media starts telling people the truth behind the endless savage murders committed in the name of Mohammad then they may as well not bother reporting the gory details.
