| H & M's ad for a hoodie causes an uproar |
If you think the black kid photographed in this hoodie with the slogan "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle" is racist consider the following possibilities.
First, if you make the connection between a black kid and a monkey it is YOU who is racist. The rest of us just see a black kid in a hoodie with a generic cheesy slogan.
Second, if you are not racist you can comfort yourself with the thought that you may just be really stupid. Perhaps you have seen a celebrity you admire getting upset by the hoodie and that convinced you that there must be some connection between monkeys and black people. See the first point.
Third, you are a white person born into comfortable circumstances and feel a bit guilty about it, but not quite guilty enough to actually help somebody in a less fortunate situation. Getting upset about trivial crap like this shows the world how nice you are at absolutely no cost to yourself. So, hey, why not?
Fourth, you are a black person who has swallowed the endless liberal bilge that Britain is irredeemably racist and that you don't stand a chance however hard you try. There ain't no black in the Union Jack, right? And this hoodie just shows what white people really think!
Or maybe you are a race-baiter. You see something that the above racists, idiots, over-indulged white people and chippy blacks consider racist, so you stir the pot and see how much trouble you can cause. One day you hope to get onto TV as a racism talking head, but till then ranting on Twitter and signing petitions in the basement will have to do.
The sad thing for Britain is that all of these pathetic minorities described above may actually form a majority when they all bleat together.
Anyhow, it certainly seems like it.
H & M apologised and withdrew the ad.
