False Dawn

At last, a feminist of some standing has taken Britain to task for its appalling record on women’s rights. The UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, Rashida Manjoo, has concluded that the United Kingdom was the most “in your face” sexist country in the world.

Any readers of the blog will be aware of my mounting frustration and disgust at the blind eye that the sisterhood turns to the litany of crimes against women in the UK. First and foremost, there’s the estimated 170, 000 cases of female genital mutilation, which is specifically designed to deprive women of sexual pleasure for life and is often carried out in the most barbaric fashion. Then there’s honour violence including at least one honour killing a month. And what about the injustice of the British Sharia courts, rape gangs running amok, forced marriage to first cousins etc, etc,...

It’s a shame that it’s should be a foreigner who’s found the courage to expose this and not one of our own. But that’s a minor quibble against the glory of her broadside against the medieval savagery going on in a street near you. A shot which I sincerely hope is heard around Britain.

But I’d better not let my enthusiasm get the better of me. Before I further hail this as a new dawn of hope for Britain’s oppressed women I should probably check the details of her charge.

Oh dear, another disappointment!

Apparently, what qualifies Britain as the most sexist country on earth turns out to be its “boys’ club sexist culture” which apparently involves the perpetration of atrocities such as wolf-whistling, taking photos of women eating on trains, pressure from social media and the non-cuts in government programs.

I fear that Rashida has gone native after just two weeks in the company of Britain’s whinge-bag feminists.
