Our Enemy's Enemy Is Our Enemy

Assad is a son of a bitch. He’s a murdering dictator allied to the mad mullahs of Iran and the mafia state of Putin’s Russia. He maintains himself in power in Syria by killing and through his terrorist proxy, Hezbollah, he’s been responsible for a world of pain abroad too. He’s the enemy of everything we in the west pretend to believe in.

So in short Assad is a son of a bitch without even the redeeming quality of being our son of a bitch.

In the light of that, many commentators reacted positively to the news that the CIA is finally supplying the rebels with large quantities of weapons directly. Most doubts on the subject are of the it’s “too little, too late” variety.

Other things being equal, I think it would be simple delicious justice to annihilate this tin-pot gangster in a hail of American high-tech ordinance.

But other things are not equal. There would be consequences. To get an idea of what those might be, try the following. Go to You Tube and search the following non-partisan words: “Syria” and “execution”. The videos thus produced are overwhelmingly of atrocities committed by the agreeable sounding Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The first thing that strikes you is the sheer amount of this atrocity porn. The Yanks send hundreds of thousands of troops to invade and occupy Iraq for 8 years.  But in all that time the most famous US “war crimes” were the Halloween type humiliations at Abu Ghraib and US Marines killing an enemy combatant — in a war zone!

The FSA on the other hand not only torture and execute hundreds if not thousands, they are inordinately proud of it and miss no opportunity to record and post their disgusting activities. If you can bear to watch a couple of the executions you’ll notice that there are often even more snuff film-makers in attendance than psychotic murderers. And that’s saying something.

So why the silence from the western media about the systemic depravity of the FSA? It’s tempting to attribute it to their racism. They don’t hold the FSA to the same standards as the US Army because they’re brown people and so like children not responsible for their actions. But in this case I’d say it mostly boils down to  two other factors. The FSA are rebels and the liberal/lefty types that dominate western media never see a rebel they don’t like. But perhaps even more importantly as Muslims the FSA’s depraved activities reflect badly on Islam. And above all else your knuckle dragging average viewer must be shielded from that.

And on that subject another thing you’ll notice watching one of these snuff films is that every cruel murder is accompanied by the inevitable “Allahu Akbar”. Murder for these guys is clearly a religious duty. Poor old Senator John McCain demonstrated once again that as ego-centric, socialist and ineffectual as Obama undoubtedly is, America had a close escape when it rejected McCain’s presidential bid.

One of his latest idiocies was to claim on Fox that “Allahu Akbar” simply means “Thank God”. And just to make his meaning clear he followed that up with, “That’s what they are saying … I guarantee you they are moderates”. And if you have trouble recalling the last time you heard of hordes of Christian serial killers dispatching their victims to the refrain of “Thank God,” you’re not alone.

McCain’s thinking is profoundly delusional, but sadly not rare. His explanation was seized on by his fellow liberals in the media as no more than a statement of the obvious.

Just how delusional the senior Senator from Arizona is has been revealed by  the latest report from IHS Jane’s a defence consultancy on the makeup of the rebel forces. Apparently around 75% of the rebels are either al Qaeda, other extremist Islamists or in groups with an Islamic character. Only around 25% belong to Nationalist or moderate groups.

And other recent reports indicate that the moderate groups are under heavy attack from the Islamists and now see them as at least as much a threat to their existence as “Basher” Assad’s army.

This shouldn’t surprise anybody. If the “Arab Spring” has demonstrated anything it is that the only realistic alternative to the Arab world’s strongmen is Islamist dictators.

No doubt there are significant numbers of moderates in Syria, but moderates by their very nature tend to keep their heads down when the bullets fly. And that goes double in the lunatic asylum which is your average Arab polity at war.

In comparison to the senior Senator from Arizona, the Obama administration has been relatively sane on Syria. Or perhaps that should be ineffectual, inconsistent and craven but relatively sane. After sensibly staying out for two years they finally got involved when the clamour to “do something” became too loud to ignore. Then for 3 months after Obama announced they would arm the rebels nothing happened as it sank in to the administration that this would mean arming al Qaeda.

But now after the Obama’s red line humiliation they have evidently decided to swallow their scruples and “do something”.

So 12 years on from 9/11here’s the state of play in the “war on terror”.

We are now allied to al Qaeda
